RETO PETER
MIXER / ENGINEER / PRODUCER

Music has always played a big role in my life, was it having to listen to classical music as a kid, playing recorder flute, ukulele, saxophone, guitar and drums from an early age on, or later playing in bands. In my late teens I realized that recording myself and my band was a lot more fun than practicing my drums, so I decided to pursue a career in recording as opposed to fail trying to become a rockstar.

I quickly found out that in my hometown of Aarau, Switzerland, the studio scene was not really happening, so I packed my bags and moved west to Boston where I did get a musical education at Berklee College of Music after all, but with the major of music production.

Upon graduation, I needed to prove myself in the real world and moved to NYC to cut my teeth at the Magic Shop working my way up from intern to staff engineer.

After three years living in the Lower East Side (including muggings and falling buildings), it was time to move to the more suburban area of the the San Francisco East Bay where I enjoy a home with an actual yard. I joined Studio 880 in Oakland where I did everything from managing to wiring studios to being the chief engineer.

Eventually, I turned freelance forming Mannix Productions with Michael Urbano and running  my own mix studio. As a freelance I've done projects with Green Day, Modest Mouse, Fischerspooner, Counting Crows and many more, but also stayed in touch with the homeland doing work for some of the biggest Swiss acts like Florian Ast and Adrian Stern.
